Making Collaboration Easier

Last week, I had the pleasure of delivering a collaboration webinar to over 250 CPHR members across BC and Canada. I shared a six-step collaborative process for facilitating collaborative meetings along with the accompanying infographic.

Anyone who facilitates meetings can use these steps to create transformational team meetings, solve challenging problems together, and innovate solutions. The steps are based on organizational development theories such as Appreciative Inquiry, positive psychology, and Schein's ideas of workplace culture. Each step helps to build psychological safety and encourages a positive workplace culture.
For beginners, I recommend implementing step 4 first, as it's a simple entry point into becoming a more collaborative leader. Use this step to establish community and belonging in a group. I don't use every step in every meeting, but when done consistently with the intent to create more equitable and inclusive spaces, the result is a positive culture where people feel safe to participate and engage.
We all have the right to sit at the table, and the responsibility to bring our best selves to the process. This Collaborative Process helps us get there together.
